Komarin. Monument to the liberating soldiers.

Memorial

Memorial

Belarus, Gomel region, Braginsky district, Komarin urban settlement

Description

Komarin occupies a special place in the history of Belarus, because it was here, on September 23, 1943, that the liberation of the Belarusian land from the Nazi invaders began. This small settlement was the first to taste freedom, thanks to the joint efforts of the Red Army fighters and the Belarusian partisans. The partisans, showing heroism and ingenuity, captured important crossings over the Dnieper and Pripyat, which significantly helped the offensive of the Soviet troops. In memory of this significant event and the heroes who liberated Komarin, a monumental Monument to the liberating soldiers was erected.

The monument to the liberating soldiers in Komarin commemorates the first liberation.

A decisive role in the liberation of Komarin was played by the swift strike of the soldiers of the 360th Infantry Regiment of the 74th Division of the 13th Army. As a result of the fierce battle, up to two battalions of German infantry defending the village and the strategically important railway bridge were defeated. For their bravery and heroism during the crossing of the Dnieper River in the Komarin area, more than twenty soldiers were awarded the high title Hero of the Soviet Union.

A monumental Monument to the liberating soldiers was erected in memory of this significant event and the heroes who liberated Komarin. It is an expressive bas–relief made in bright colors, which captures images of Soviet soldiers, partisans and underground fighters - all those who brought the long-awaited liberation day closer. The bas-relief is mounted on a strict pedestal of black granite, symbolizing the eternity of the feat.

In addition to the monument, in Komarin you can visit the Mass Grave of Soviet soldiers and partisans who gave their lives for the freedom of Komarin and the surrounding villages. There is a monument on the grave.

There is also a Memorial complex "Victory Park" dedicated to the heroism of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.
