Sopotskin. The chapel-tombs of Dyakonskaya and Gursky.
In the town of Sopotskin, Grodno region, there are many monuments of ancient architecture. The dominant feature of the village is the Catholic church of the 18th century. The local cemetery has two stone chapels from the 18th - 19th century.
The place was first mentioned in historical sources in the 16th century during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1703, there was a Swedish army in Sopotsk, led by King Charles XII. A church was operating here in 1704, and a new church was built in 1724. Anthony Volovich and his wife Theophilia founded a Catholic church in 1789.
After the third partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the town became part of Prussia. Since 1807, it has been part of the Duchy of Warsaw. Since 1815, it became part of the Kingdom of Poland of the Russian Empire.
In the 19th century, two stone chapels were built at the local cemetery. One chapel is the tomb of Yulia Dyakonskaya, and the second is the nearby chapel of Jozef Gursky.
The chapel of Yulia Dyakonskaya was built in a retrospective Gothic style. The temple was built in 1868 in memory of Yulia Dyakonskaya from the Bykhov family (1825-1858), who was the wife of Evstafy Dyakonsky (1820-1894). The temple has a rectangular shape in the plan. The building is covered with a gable roof. On the main facade there is a trapezoidal shield, above which there is a small four-pointed tower. The entrance portal and the niche above it have a pointed configuration. The walls are plastered and decorated with small stones.
Nearby is the tomb chapel of Jozef Gursky. The temple was built in 1893 in the retrospective Gothic style. The building has a rectangular shape in the plan. The building is covered with a gable roof. There are multi-faceted turrets above the main facade and on the sides of the facade.
The chapels have the status of historical and cultural value.
