Novogrudok. Lenin Square, former Shopping Square.
In the historical center of Novogrudok there is a former Shopping square, which is now known as Lenin Square. Several religious buildings, merchant houses and shops, and shopping malls have been preserved on the square to this day.
Nearby is the Church of St. Nicholas, which until the 19th century belonged to the Catholic Church and the Franciscan monastery. One of the oldest churches is located near the square - this is the Boriso-Glebskaya Church of the 12th – 18th centuries. The Dominican Monastery and the Church of St. Michael the Archangel are located directly on the square. There was a school at the Dominican monastery in the 19th century, where the poet Adam Mickiewicz studied.
There was a town hall nearby, which has not survived to our time. There is now a modern Detsky Mir building and other shops on that site. There is a drawing and a drawing of the town hall.
At the beginning of the 19th century, shopping malls in the classical style were built on the square and nearby. Most of the advice has not reached our time. Since then, only one building of a small shopping mall has been located at 3 Minskaya Street next to the square.
The neighboring building during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was the Jesuit Church and the collegium, which were closed in the 19th century during the Russian Empire and were gradually dismantled.
There was also a two-story stone Radziwill Palace on the square.
In recent years, the area has been improved. The ancient buildings of the houses of artisans and merchants, religious buildings have been restored. The modern name of the square is Lenin Square, which has a small monument right there on the outskirts.
