Zhukoini Zhelyadskie. Shkaplernaya Mother of God church.
In the Ostrovets district, in a place with an unusual name Zhukoini Zhelyadskie, there is a Catholic church of the Mother of God Shkaplernaya. The name of the village is of Baltic origin. The first church in the village was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1622.
The new church was built during the time of the Russian Empire in 1820.
Then the catholic church was handed over to Orthodox believers and rebuilt as a Orthodox church. In 1908, a fire broke out and the building was destroyed by fire. A new stone church was built on the same site in 1912. In 1914, the church was handed over to the Catholic faithful.
Reconstruction of the building began, which lasted from 1914 to 1918. The temple was rebuilt quite significantly: the altar was moved from east to west, the former church was converted into a presbytery, to which an extension was made, and a harmonium was installed above the entrance in the choir. A bell tower was built next to the temple, on which a bell was installed according to the Gaspersky foundation.
In Soviet times, after the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed in 1947. The shrine was returned to the Catholic faithful in 1990.
The monument was erected in the style of historicism. The main stone volume is placed on a high stone foundation. The temple is covered with a two-pitched roof.
