Zhlobin. Museum of Local Lore

The ethnographic hall of the Zhlobin Museum of Local Lore preserves numerous artifacts illustrating the rural life of the inhabitants of Zhlobin. The exhibition presents samples of the national clothes of Belarusians, including the famous Kalinkovichi system. Shirt collars, sleeves and hem were often decorated with ornaments of sacred significance, which gave the clothes a special symbolism and significance.

In addition, the museum houses a collection of unique icons painted on wooden boards. Numerous photographs clearly show that only a century ago Belarusians led an unpretentious, but friendly and cheerful lifestyle.

The museum has a hall dedicated to the history of railway development in Belarus. Zhlobin, as an important transport hub, played a significant role in this. The first railway station in Zhlobin was designed as part of the Libavo-Romenskaya Railway line in 1871. Two years later, freight and passenger trains began running through the station, and since 1903, Zhlobin has become a hub with a specially built station building.

During the period of socialist construction, entire dynasties of railway workers were formed in the city, whose representatives are successfully working in this field to this day.

Probably, no museum of local lore in Belarus can do without an exhibition dedicated to the events of the Second World War. And the Zhlobin Museum was no exception, because during the war the city became famous due to the active activities of the underground movement.
