Zherdyazhye. The tomb chapel.
Landmark
Belarus, Minsk region, Logoysky district, village of Zherdyazhye
Description
80 kilometers from Minsk, near the modest village of Zherdyazhye, there is an architectural gem that has been undeservedly overlooked – a tomb chapel built in 1860. Located in an old cemetery, right by the side of the road, it is a rare example of neoclassicism, which, unfortunately, is in poor condition.

The forgotten treasure of the Belarusian land.
The chapel in Zherdyazhye is an octagonal rotunda, an unusual solution for rural cemeteries in Belarus. It is distinguished by the strict lines of the facade, decorated with flat pilasters and a classic portal. The laconic Latin inscription "D.O.M." ("To the Greatest, Best God") is engraved above the entrance. Unfortunately, the name of the architect who created this masterpiece of brick and rubble stone has not been preserved.
Initially, the chapel served as the family tomb of the Korbut-Dashkevich family. Their ancestors, representatives of an influential family, were buried in the crypt. However, in the 20th century, the chapel was looted and desecrated.
An interesting fact is the proximity of the chapel to a small military cemetery that arose in the 1920s. Polish soldiers and nameless Bolsheviks are buried here, creating a kind of historical layer.
Since 1997, attempts have been made to restore the chapel, but the full restoration has not been completed.
Today, the building is in urgent need of renovation in order to preserve the remnants of the authentic style of the 19th century.
