An open-air museum that tells about the history and way of life of Belarusians.
The steam mill in Zaslavl is a unique monument of flour milling in the early 20th century. It was built in 1910 at the expense of a wealthy local resident, Mehedko-Savitsky. The steam mill is a wooden three-storey building. On the second floor there is the heart of the mill — a millstone machine, as well as a grain grinder for the production of cereals and cleaning grain from bran. At first, the millstone supply of the mill was powered by a steam engine, the so-called lacomobile, whose boiler was heated with firewood. In the 30s, the lacomobile was replaced by a more efficient single-piston diesel engine manufactured at the Polish Perkun plant, and in the 50s an electric motor was installed altogether.
For about 80 years, until 1989, the mill obediently served customers, but over time it became unusable. After restoration in 1990, it became the central element of the ethnographic complex “Mill” of the historical and cultural museum-reserve "Zaslavl", which also includes the house of Zavoznikov, sviran and the forge.
Today, the steam mill in Zaslavl is a monument of industrial heritage of the early 20th century with preserved buildings, mechanisms and processes.
This is a very interesting complex that tells about the history and way of life of Belarusians. It consists of four rooms: an inn, a mill, a barn, and a blacksmith's house. All these are authentic historical buildings.
Today, there is the only steam mill in the Republic of Belarus, which has been preserved in its historical place. It also offers an interesting interactive tour of the former mill complex. The amazing thing is that almost everything in the complex can be touched, turned, and viewed.
This is a very interesting authentic place to understand the life and way of life of the peasants of the early 20th century. I advise everyone to visit!
