Castle in Mozyr.

The ancient city of Mozyr arose on a high promontory between two torrents on the high bank of Pripyat river. The city was first a part of the Principality of Turov, then of Kyiv. And from the 14th century it became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The city was often attacked by the Crimean Tatars. therefore, a castle was built on Spasskaya Hill. The castle was made of wood. And the construction work in 1552 is described in the inventory as a castle that was built "from pine wood, hewn under a cord." And towers were made "in four walls". The castle had a "gate tower" gate with a drawbridge on two chains. The total length of the castle fortifications was 281 meters. Right there on the castle hill was the Church of the Holy Savior and the house of the burgher, where there was also the "castle hideout" trade house. Other outbuildings were built, which were necessary during the defense of the castle. In 1552, the castle had 5 bronze cannons on wheels, 4 serpentines, 60 "old hooks" and other weapons. There were kernels and gunpowder. In the 18th century, the castle fell into disrepair. And already in September 2005, the grand opening of the museum complex "Mazyr Castle" took place. The museum consists of a landscape area with the reconstruction of a historical building. In the three towers of the castle there are expositions under the names: "Armory", "Hunting" and "Administrative". Excursions are conducted around the Castle, including animated tours. On New Year's and Christmas holidays, there is a theatrical performance with the participation of Santa Claus.
