Kozyansky Nature Reserve. Kozyansk marshes.

  The Kozyansky Nature Reserve was established in 1960.  He was one of the first in Belarus. In 1999, it received the status of a republican landscape reserve.

The Kozyansk marshes occupy a significant area and are characterized by a variety of landscapes, including sedge and sphagnum swamps, as well as swampy forests. Uplands and lowlands create unique conditions for the life of various organisms. Swamps play an important role in maintaining the ecosystem by providing water filtration, regulating water exchange and preserving biodiversity. They serve as a habitat for many animals, including rare and protected species such as the marsh harrier and the blue goldfinch. The purpose of the Kozyansky Nature Reserve is to preserve the unique landscapes of the Belarusian Lake district, as well as the preservation of rare and endangered species of plants and animals.

The Kozyansk marshes have historically served as a source of resources such as reeds and moss, and are used to harvest berries and mushrooms. Despite its value, the Kozyansk marshes face a number of threats. Deforestation, land drainage and anthropogenic impacts have a negative impact on the ecosystem. The protection of these natural areas is becoming an increasingly urgent task for environmentalists and local authorities.

Fascinating hiking trips are organized here, to the marshes, allowing you to see unearthly landscapes, unique flora and fauna, as well as listen to the most interesting stories of the staff of the reserve. Such a trip is possible, if desired, in the participants' private cars. It will also require backpacks, sleeping bags and mats. Things will need to be left in the car.  This hike is suitable for tourists who like to explore and overcome the natural wilds, like to live in a tent, after sitting around the campfire. The tourists are accompanied by a guide throughout the entire route.

The Kozyansk marshes are not only a microcosm full of life, but also an important part of the cultural heritage of Belarus. Respecting this ecosystem will help preserve its uniqueness and prevent further environmental problems.
