The oldest Catholic church in Belarus, which is an example of a monument reflecting the traditions of Belarusian architecture and the Western Gothic school.
The exact date of construction of the church in Vselyub is unknown. Its first mention was in 1422. It is assumed that the church was founded by Jan Nemira, because it was on his seal that the church of St. Casimir was first mentioned.
This church is the oldest Catholic church in Belarus.
Initially, it had features of the Gothic style. At the end of the 16th century, the church was turned into a Calvinist sbor and partially rebuilt, removing the Gothic arches and reducing the buttresses.
In the 17th century, the church was returned to the Catholics and again rebuilt a little, expanding the narrow windows and reducing the height of the altar part. At the end of the 19th century, a bell tower was added above the temple.
In the 20th century, the Soviet authorities equipped a granary and a sports hall here. A fire in 1962 caused severe damage to the building and it was abandoned for a long time.
In 1988, the church was returned to the faithful, restored and in 1991 it was re-consecrated.
Now the Church of St. Casimir is the main attraction of Vselyub.
The exterior of the church is quite ascetic and has features of the Gothic style: elongated and characteristic Gothic lines, lancet windows. The only decorations are stucco on the columns and openwork forging on the door. Tourists are attracted and surprised by the impressive age of the temple. The interior is dominated by white, the interior is quite simple, but it is calm and pleasant to be inside.
And there are also several relics that attract the eye – this is a sculpture of the Mother of God depicting the Mother of God pregnant, waiting for the birth of Jesus. As well as a sculptural image of the Virgin Mary on the territory near the temple, which was brought from Portugal in 2017.
Near the church in the cemetery, the ancestral chapel-the tomb of the Earls of O'Rourke has been preserved - representatives of this Irish family have been in the service of the Russian emperors since the XVIII century.
The Church of St. Casimir in Vselyub is not only a religious object, but also an important part of the cultural heritage of the region, reflecting the history and traditions of the local population.
