Volpa. The Church of Peter and Paul

In the Volkovysk district there is an ancient town of Volpa on a small river Volpyanka. Volpa was first mentioned in the 15th century and at that time belonged to Grand Duke Kazimir and was state property. Then it passed to Chancellor Olekhna Sudimontovich. Then the owners were Golshansky. In 1624, the chancellor Lev Sapieha acquired the place. Then several more owners changed, and in 1793 Volpa became part of the Russian Empire.

In 1893, Volpa had 110 courtyards, a wooden church and two Orthodox chapels, a synagogue, two prayer houses, a brewery, a school, two tanneries, and 25 shops.

The Orthodox Church in honor of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was built in 1859 and is an architectural monument of folk wooden architecture. At first, the church was used as a chapel in the cemetery for the funeral of the dead.

The church has a rectangular shape. The building is simple without architectural decorations. It consists of three main parts: a vestibule, a prayer hall and an apse. There is a multi-tiered tower above the narthex. Small radiations are installed above the tower and the prayer hall, which is interpreted by researchers as an element that is characteristic of the retrospective Russian style. The church is covered with a gable roof. The interior has an image from 1768 "The Mother of God with a child".

Not far from the church there is a stone Catholic chapel and a wooden church.
