Volozhin. Church of Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine and Elena.
In the city of Volozhin, a wooden church of Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine and Elena stands on the central Sovetskaya Street.
The first wooden church in Volozhin was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 17th century and in the middle of the 18th century its priest Anthony Adamovich appealed to the authorities about the repair or construction of a new temple. The building permit was obtained, but the construction of the new temple took a long time.
The situation changed after the suppression of the anti-Russian uprising of 1863-1864. Construction began in 1855 at the expense of parishioners, Count Tyshkevich and the state and was completed in the summer of 1866. Bishop Alexander of Kovno consecrated the church. Since 1875, an almshouse has been operating at the temple, and since 1883, a parish school has been opened.
The temple is wooden, built in the traditions of folk architecture in the retrospective Russian style. The building is cruciform in plan and consists of 4 main parts: a vestibule, a refectory, a prayer hall and an apse. A two-tiered bell tower is built over the narthex, which is completed with a tent with an onion. An octagonal light drum is built over the center of the church, which is completed with a tent and an onion. To the left of the church is a small warm temple, which is rectangular in terms of the building.
Opposite the Church on Sovetskaya Street there is a one–story wooden house in which the Belarusian poet Stary Vlas (1865 - 1939) lived and worked. There is a commemorative plaque on the house.
