Description

In the ancient town of Volchin, in the very west of the Kamenets district, there are two stone Christian churches: the Church of the Holy Trinity, where the last king of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Stanislaw August Poniatowski, who was born in this place in 1832, and the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, were baptized.

The church was first a Uniate church, which was built in the 18th century in the Baroque style. In the 19th century, after the prohibition of Uniatism, the building was handed over to Orthodox believers. The church was rebuilt and acquired the features of a pseudo–Russian style. The church was not closed during the Soviet era. The temple has recently been renovated.

Volchin. Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

In the very west of our country there is a small town of Volchin, which has been known since the 16th century. The last king of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Stanislav August Poniatowski (1732-1798), was born here in Volchyna in 1732, who was baptized in the local church of the Holy Trinity. This church has been preserved to our time and was restored several years ago.

In the very center of the town there is an old Uniate stone church of the 18th century, which was later handed over to Orthodox believers. The Uniates built the church on the Market Square. The temple was built in the Baroque style. After the third partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795, Volchin was transferred to the Russian Empire and for the first years the church worked as a uniates temple. After the prohibition of Uniatism in 1839, the church was handed over to Orthodox believers and the building was rebuilt.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the church had a parish school, the building of which was wooden. In Soviet times, the church continued to work.

The temple has two architectural styles: Baroque and pseudo–Russian.

A multi-tiered wooden bell tower of eight on four is built above the porch. The main volume of the prayer hall is rectangular in plan. An apse with a sacristy is attached to the east side. In recent years, the church has been renovated and a new roof has been made. A rubble stone fence has been erected around the church.
