Description

Frunze Park is one of the central parks of Vitebsk, located along the Vitba River. Its history begins in the middle of the 19th century, when the Bishop's garden was founded here, in which more than 700 trees and shrubs were planted.

In 1926, the park received a new name — Frunze Park of Culture and Recreation, in honor of the revolutionary. After the revolution, it became accessible to everyone, becoming a place of public recreation.

Today, the park remains an area for walking and recreation, where you can see a fountain, bike paths and an artificial dam.

Vitebsk. Frunze Park of Culture and Recreation

Frunze Park has a landscape layout that creates a natural and harmonious appearance, while the central part is decorated in a regular style, giving the space order and symmetry.

About 700 trees and shrubs of various species have been planted here, including birch, willow, Canadian poplar, white acacia, pyramidal and holly maples, as well as common ash. This variety of greenery creates a pleasant atmosphere for walking and relaxing.

In the center of the park, on Kstovskaya Hill, there is the Vitebsk Concert Hall, which is accessed from Lenin Street, across the Vitba River, by the 1000th Anniversary of Vitebsk pedestrian bridge. Several small bridges have been built along the riverbed, connecting the banks of the Vitba and the Danube, and a fountain has been built in the right part of the park, giving the space a special picturesque appearance.

In Soviet times, the park was a place of entertainment, and there were attractions here, but in the 2000s they ceased to exist, giving way to new landscape and architectural solutions.

The park was originally named Bishop's Park, but in 1926 it was renamed Frunze Park of Culture and Recreation in honor of the revolutionary and Soviet statesman. In the pre-revolutionary years, this area was occupied by private development, but later it was cleared and turned into a full-fledged urban park with a summer theater.
