Vishnevo. Old Catholic cemetery.
If you are driving to Vishnevo from Volozhin, as soon as you enter the village, you will immediately see an old cemetery on the hill on the left. A good dirt road leads from the highway to the cemetery. You can drive up from the village itself. The cemetery is quite large, and if you are interested in the fortifications from the First World War, take the right from the cemetery, towards Volozhin. Climb to the very top of the hill and go into the thickets of bushes and thickets. And there you will see a huge reinforced concrete German pillbox, about 5 by 5 meters in size and about three meters high.
During the First World War, the front between the Kaiser's armies and the army of the Russian Empire was near Vishnevo for a long time. The pillbox looks very good and is not damaged at all. The battlements and the entrance have been preserved, but, unfortunately, they are covered with rubbish and it is impossible to get inside. If you walk through the cemetery, where a whole pine forest has already grown, you will see many old Catholic tombstones and chapels. At the edge of the cemetery, closer to the road to Volozhin, the classic of Belarusian literature, poetess Konstanciya Bujlo (1893 - 1986) is buried. Nearby is also the grave of the Belarusian writer and historian, translator Pyotr Bitel (1912 - 1991).
