Vidzy. Orthodox Church of the Holy Dormition.

In the very center of the village of Vidzy, the architectural dominant is the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity. If you walk a little to the right of the road near the church, you will see an unusual church belonging to the Old Believers. The Old Believers, or Old Believers, appeared on the lands of Belarus in the 17th century, when a church reform was carried out in the Muscovite Kingdom. Part of the population did not support the reform and was persecuted by the authorities for this. And the Old Believers fled to neighboring states, including the territory of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, of which Belarus was a part. The first Old Believers appeared in Vidzy in the 18th century.

The new brick church for the Old Believers was built in 1907-1910 according to the design of the famous Belarusian architect Leon Vitan-Dubeykovsky.

L. Vitan-Dubeikovsky (1869 - 1940) - Belarusian poet, architect and civil engineer, public and political figure. Studied in Warsaw, St. Petersburg and Paris. He developed the Belarusian national architectural style. He is buried in Vilnius.

The church was named in honor of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The building is an architectural monument. The church was built in the Art Nouveau style. Rectangular in plan, it has a pentagonal apse. It is covered with a gable roof. An octagonal drum is erected above the altar part, which is topped with a dome. A multi-tiered tower is located above the entrance.
