St. Nicholas Church in the village of Verkholesye is a vivid example of traditional wooden architecture with elements of classicism.

On April 3, 1881, a wooden church in Verkholesye was destroyed by fire, leaving the local Orthodox community homeless. Instead, a new St. Nicholas Church was built at the expense of the Orthodox community, which indicates its importance to local residents.

The new church was built taking into account the traditional architectural forms. It has a three-part spatial composition, which includes the main volume, completed with an onion dome, a rectangular apse and a tent-roofed bell tower above the vestibule. The architectural decor of the temple is represented by triangular pediments, as well as vertical and horizontal paneling, which gives the building a special flavor and expressiveness.

The temple in Verkholesye is included in the list of historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus. However, like many historical buildings, it is not immune from disasters. On August 9, 2020, a lightning storm caused a fire that damaged the roof and dome of the temple. Fortunately, thanks to the rapid actions of the firefighters, the main building was not damaged.

November 4, 2023 marked the 135th anniversary of the consecration of St. Nicholas Church. Today it is an important cultural and historical monument for the local population and the whole country.
