Velyatichi. Monument to the poet Franz Savich.
Velyatichi, Pinsk district, has a rich history and is associated with the names of many famous figures in Belarus. This is also the birthplace of the poet and publicist Franz Andreevich Savich.
Savich was born in Velyatichi in 1815 in the family of a Uniate priest. In those days it was the Pinsk district of the Minsk province. He studied very well and at the same time worked as a home teacher. He graduated from the Pinsk District College and entered the Medical and Surgical Academy in Vilnius. At the Academy, Savich, together with like-minded people, organized a student secret organization, the Democratic Society, in 1836. The members of this circle believed that they were continuing the tradition of the Philomaths and Filarets.
F. Savich was elected secretary of the circle and wrote for it the charter "principles of democracy" and the proclamation "remarks on the moral war of the people against despotism." According to the charter, the organization was supposed to work with young people to educate honest citizens, help the disadvantaged and fight lawlessness. The organization has developed its own special conspiracy theory and language. A connection was established with the Polish underground organization. I had thoughts about setting up my own printing house.
In the summer of 1838, Franz Savich was arrested and, after an investigation, was exiled as a soldier to the Caucasus. He escaped from the army and got a job as a doctor in Ukraine under a false name. He wrote his memoirs. He died during a cholera epidemic.
In Velyatichi, in 1994, a memorial sign to Franz Savich was erected near the Orthodox church. The monument was made by master wood carvers Anatoly Gorbatsevich and Vitaly Rusko.
