Velyatichi. Church of the Nativity of the Virgin.
To the south, 10 kilometers from Pinsk, is the village of Velyatichi, which first belonged to the Pinsk princes, and then was the domain of the king and Grand Duke of Lithuania. Then the estate was donated to the Velyatichi family.
The first known owners were Bogdan and Jan Velyatitsky. Bogdan had 15 more courtyards, which were approved by his order by Queen Bona in 1524. Then the estate became the property of the Domanovichi, and then to the King of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Velyatichi belonged to the Dominican monastery in Pinsk. At the end of the 18th century, the Skirmunt family acquired the estate, which they owned until 1939.
Adam Skirmunt financed the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in 1826. Adam's son Henry Skirmunt was the owner of the estate in the early 20th century. And in the 1920s and 1930s, the Velatichi estate was divided between Henry Skirmunt's children: sons Viktor and Alexander and daughter Alexandra. They ran the place until 1939.
This place is also known for the fact that the secretary and associate of the writer and poet Adam Narushevich, the historian Mateusz Tukalski–Nelyubovich, lived here for some time.
The wooden church on the stone foundation of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1826. According to some sources, in 1828, at the expense of the local owner of the estate, Skirmunt. The building consists of three main parts: the vestibule, the main volume and the apse. A bell tower is built over the vestibule. There are three bulbs on octagonal drums in the pseudo-Russian style on the church.
During the First World War, the church was dismantled by Russian troops for defensive needs, and the church implements were transported to another church in Lopatino. The Tsar's Gate was moved to the Holy Trinity Church in the town of Mestkovichi. During the time of the Polish state, in 1922, parishioners purchased an apartment building and moved it to Velyatichi and built a new church. During the war, the church was looted by the Nazis. During the Soviet years, the church was closed. Since 1987, the church has been returned to the Orthodox faithful. Repairs have been carried out.
