Velemichi. St. Nicholas Church.

There is a unique Orthodox church in the Stolin district in the village of Velemichi. According to the documents of the Minsk diocese, it is known that the Orthodox church of St. Nicholas was built in 1724 during the period of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It is possible that at first the shrine belonged to Uniate believers.

The first temple was in the form of a ship with three domes. The temple area was 25 fathoms. The church was "cold." During the time of the Russian Empire, major repairs were carried out in 1879. The iconostasis was four-tiered, wooden and had 32 icons. There was also a bell tower with four bells: the largest was 10 poods, which adds up to about 160 kilograms, 6 poods, 3 poods, and the smallest was 1 pood, which is 16 kilograms. During the Great Patriotic War, two bells were buried at the bottom of the local lake, where they are still located. One church and two cemetery were assigned to the parish. There were two ministers at the church: the priest and the psalmist. An elementary church school and a mercy home operated at the temple.

The ancient temple, unfortunately, has not survived to our time, as it was destroyed by fire. And a new wooden church was built on the same foundation in 1881. The building was also built with three Baroque domes. In 1888, two chapels with two domes were added outside the parish. After such a restructuring, the temple became in the form of a cross and with 5 domes. The iconostasis is three-tiered with 29 icons. A wooden three-tiered bell tower with two bells has been erected nearby. Two parish schools were assigned to the new church. In 1934, during the time of the Polish state, there were more than three thousand people of parish.

The church's metric books began in the 18th century, and are now archived in Minsk. The church was renovated a few years ago.
