Uzda. The Church of Peter and Paul.
A stone Orthodox church of Peter and Paul has been built in the small town of Uzda. The temple is located on the street with the interesting name Red Square near the ancient Catholic church.
The monument was erected during the time of the Russian Empire in 1905 in a retrospective Russian style. There was a wooden bell tower and 3 bells in front of the temple. Architect V. Struyev.
The first church was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 16th century. The sponsors of the first church, which was consecrated in honor of Peter and Paul, were the Korsak magnates. The temple was rebuilt several times and destroyed during wars and fires.
In 1848, the first stone Orthodox church was built. Funds for the construction of the shrine were provided by the owner of the town, Tadeusz Zawisza. The temple was built of rubble stone, the building was square in plan. The roof is shingled. The floor is wooden. The iconostasis is two-tiered with 16 icons.
In 1905, the old stone church was significantly rebuilt. And in this form the church has reached our time.
In Soviet times, in the 1930s, the temple was closed and the building was adapted for a granary. During the Great Patriotic War, the church started working again and was never closed again.
The church has an elongated axial structure. It consists of three main parts: the refectory, the prayer hall and the apse.
The monument was renovated several years ago.
