The world's only monument to a rare species of bird in Belarus, the wader, listed in the Red Book.
The location of this monument was not chosen by chance. A few kilometers from the city of Turov is the Turov Meadow ornithological reserve, the main inhabitants of which are rare sandpipers. There are even rumors that their number is equal to the number of residents of the city of Turov. In this regard, the only monument to waders in the world has been erected in Turov.
Turov meadow, also known as Turovskoe Bologne (as it is called in Polesie), is famous as a place of concentration of many species of wetland birds in Eastern Europe. Tens of thousands of geese, gulls, terns and ducks stop here during their migrations. The largest population in Belarus of a rare bird for our latitudes, the sandpiper, lives precisely on the Turovskoe Bologne. And these birds nest only in the floodplain of Pripyat.
In Belarus, the sandpiper is called the symbol of the Turovskoe Bologne. This bird is easily recognizable by its distinctive feature: a characteristically upturned long beak.
The sculpture of a sandpiper is twice the size of a real bird. However, she manages to convey the beauty and grace of these creatures. The pedestal for the bronze sculpture is a bowl made of red granite.
