Turkovskaya Sloboda. Church of the Intercession.

A wooden Orthodox Church of the Intercession was built in the Bobruisk region in the village of Turkovskaya Sloboda. It is not difficult to visit the place, because it is very conveniently located a couple of kilometers from the Bobruisk–Zhlobin E–271 highway.

For the first time in historical sources, the place was mentioned during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1744 as Turkovskaya Sloboda. At that time, the place was part of the Turki estate. The owners of the estate were the Skorins from Rechitsa county.

During the time of the Russian Empire in 1897, there were 71 courtyards and was part of the Turkovskaya volost of the Bobruisk district of the Minsk province. During the NEP era (the New Economic Policy), in 1926, the village had the largest population of about 500 people.

During the time of collectivization, the local collective farm Krasny Borets was established in 1932. There was a mill in the village. Today, the village has less than a hundred inhabitants.

The architectural dominant feature of Turkovskaya Sloboda is the wooden Orthodox Church of the Intercession. This temple is unusual, as it was built by the Old Believers who came to Belarus from Russia.

The church was built in the traditions of Belarusian folk wooden architecture. It consists of a vestibule and the main volume of the prayer hall. A multi-tiered eight-by-four bell tower has been erected above the vestibule. The main volume is rectangular in plan and covered with a hip roof.
