Tolochin. The Museum of Local Lore.
In the small regional town of Tolochin, the Tolochinsky Museum of Local Lore is located in an ancient building. The museum dates back to 1985 and at first it was assumed that the 19th century church building would be transferred to the exposition. But the church was handed over to the faithful and the premises of the former City Council, which was located in a pre-revolutionary building, were taken over as a museum.
The new exhibition was opened in 2001 to mark the anniversary of the ancient town of Drutsk, in the Tolochinsky district. The building of the Museum of Local lore is a monument of civil architecture, which was built at the end of the 19th century. The building belonged to the industrialist, the owner of the glass factory I. Merlis, then the Zarechno–Tolochinsky Land Bank was located here. And in Soviet times, the district party committee and the city Council were located here.
In August 2001, a new exhibition was opened with 5 halls. It begins with an ancient hall, "man in nature", ethnographic and exhibition.
The ancient hall presents numerous archaeological finds that were discovered during the exploration of the ancient town of Drutsk, which is located between Tolochin and the town of Krugloye, Mogilev region. Once there was a separate principality of Drutsky, a separate state. Sofia Drutskaya, the wife of King Jagiello of Poland, is from Drutsk.
The exposition tells about the history of the entire Tolochinsky region. The museum's collections include ancient books, a numismatic collection, paintings and folk art. A separate exhibition tells about famous countrymen: writer Mihaas Zaretsky, artist Mikhail Savitsky and others.
The museum fund consists of about 20 thousand exhibits.
