Tokari. St. Michael's Church.
On the very border with Poland there is a place called Tokari in the Kamenetsky district. Moreover, half of the village is on the side of Belarus, and half is in Poland. In the center of the village is the Orthodox Church of St. Michael.
The first church in Tokari was built in the 16th century. In 1782, the church was restored. The owners of the local estate, Tokarsky family, donated land for the church. At the beginning of the 19th century, in 1816, a new church was built on the site of the former temple. There is information that the new church was moved from the village of Dubin in the Pruzhany district, where the church was a chapel in the local cemetery. In the documents of 1837, the church is referred to as the Church of St. Michael the Archangel and belonged at that time to Uniate believers. And the last uniate priest was Ignatius Zalewski. The church was significantly expanded by 8 yards and renovated in 1873. The bell tower was built in 1909 according to the design of architect Wilhelm Sroka.
During the First World War, the church was significantly damaged. The metric books were lost. During the time of the Polish state, the church was renovated and murals were made in 1926. The roof was repaired and shingled in 1935-1936. In the post-war Soviet years, the church was closed. After the collapse of the USSR in 1990, the building was handed over to Orthodox believers.
The building consists of one log cabin. Above the vestibule is a two-tiered bell tower. An apse with 2 sacristy is attached to the prayer hall.
During the expedition in Soviet times, ancient icons of the 17th and 18th centuries were unveiled in the church, some of which are now in Minsk in the Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture.
