Description

Zyslov is a famous small island that was surrounded by dense swamps, which made it difficult to access. During the Great Patriotic War, thanks to this, he became the epicenter of the partisan movement in the Minsk region. From 1941 to 1944, partisan detachments and underground groups were stationed on the island, as well as the editorial offices of the newspapers Zvyazda and Chyrvonaya Zmena. In 1942, an airfield was established here, the first one organized by the partisans on the territory of Belarus.
In order to preserve historical memory, a memorial complex designed by architect Georgy Zaborsky was opened here in 1969.

Memorial complex "Zyslov" near the village of Starosek.

The memorial complex is located in the south-east of the region near the village of Starosek, in a picturesque corner. Locals have long called it Zyslov Island. It once really looked like an island surrounded by impassable swamps, and played an important role in the partisan history of Belarus.

From the very beginning of the liberation struggle, the first underground groups of the Lyubanshchina arose here, and one of the first partisan detachments of the Minsk region was formed.

The key element of the complex is the partisan airfield, the largest of the air routes connecting the rebels with the main territories.

Today, Zyslov is no longer an island. The swamps here have been replaced by fields of an agricultural enterprise. On the elevated shore stands a 14-meter obelisk, next to which there is a sculpture "Grieving Old Man", as well as restored partisan dugouts and a sign on the airfield site.

Every year, on Victory Day and Liberation Day of Belarus, commemorative events are held here, bringing together people from the surrounding area, among whom there are fewer and fewer veterans, but the number of young people is growing. This indicates that memory is passed down from generation to generation.
