Sokolovo. St. John the Baptist Church.
In the Bereza district there is a place called Sokolovo with an ancient wooden temple. The place was first mentioned in documents in 1593 during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, when Odynets sold the place to Zharnovsky. After some time, Sokolovo became the center of the old age, which was led by Adam Brzostowski, the castellan of Polotsk.
In the center of the village on the main street is the Orthodox Church of the St. John the Baptist. The church, or chapel, was built in the local cemetery in 1820. The chapel belonged first to Catholic believers, and after the suppression of the anti–Russian uprising in 1863-1864, the temple was handed over to Orthodox believers.
The monument was erected in the tradition of Belarusian wooden architecture. The temple consists of three main parts: the vestibule, the prayer hall and the apse. The building is a single-funnel volume under a gable roof. There is an octagonal drum with a tent top above the main entrance.
The interior has an iconostasis of the 19th half-year, which was made in 1865. There are also icons from the 18th and 19th centuries.: "Our Lady of Odigitria and Nicholas the Wonderworker", "Saint Yuri", "Crucifixion with the Primates", "Our Lady of Odigitria", "Jesus Christ", "Alexander Nevsky", "The Last Supper", "Archangel Michael".
