Slutsk. Monument to Sofia Slutskaya.

Sofia Slutskaya was the only daughter of Prince Yuri Yurievich Olelkovich of Slutsk and Barbara Kiska. The princess lost her parents at an early age and became the owner of a third of their ancestral property. After the death of her parents, her two uncles also died, leaving no descendants, and their fortune passed to Sofia. In addition, according to her grandfather's will, she acquired the title of Princess Kopylska, which made her one of the richest brides in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Sofia spent her childhood in Beresta and Vilno under the care of the outstanding statesman Yuri Khodkevich, and later his brother, the Brest elder and Vilna castellan Hieronymus Khodkevich.

Due to financial obligations to the Radziwill family, Yuri Khodkevich decided to marry the rich heiress to a representative of one of the wealthiest and most influential families in Belarus, Janusz Radziwill. Their marriage was concluded in 1600.

Sofia Slutskaya's life and work were entirely devoted to church affairs and the welfare of the Orthodox Church in Slutsk. At that time, there was a serious confessional conflict on the territory of Belarus: Orthodoxy was banned and severely persecuted by the authorities.

Princess Sofia actively defended the Orthodox faith in Slutsk, providing material and moral support to the clergy and residents of the city. Her beliefs were so strong that she managed to get a special document from the authorities from an influential spouse who professed a different faith, prohibiting forcing her subjects to change their religion. Unfortunately, Sofia Slutskaya died at the age of 26 during her third childbirth.

The authors of the monument are sculptor Mikhail Inkov and architect Nikolai Lukyanchik. They managed to embody in bronze not only the image of Sofia Slutskaya, but also her special pose. With her left hand, the saint urges everyone to stop for a moment and reflect on the transience and transience of existence, as well as on the purpose and life of man.

The monument is complemented by an arch of three petals, symbolizing the Christian Church, for the benefit of which the righteous Sofia Slutskaya worked. The monument is installed in the city of Slutsk, in the park on Bogdanovich Street.
