Slonim. Railway Station building.
There is a railway station in the city of Slonim, which is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful railway stations in Belarus. The first railway line through Slonim passed during the Russian Empire in 1886, as the city is located on one of the branches of the Polesie railway line.
A new railway line that ran through the city connected the city of Baranovichi and Belostok. A little later, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the station building was built. During the First World War, this territory was in a war zone and was under German occupation. After the Peace of Riga in 1921, Slonim became part of the Polish state until 1939, before the advent of Soviet power.
During the Polish period in 1922, the station building was significantly rebuilt and modernized. In what architectural style the railway station was built, researchers here name as many as three trends: Art Nouveau, neo-Baroque and Zakopane, which was very popular in Poland at that time. If you look closely at the building, all three styles can be traced, so let's define the style as eclectic, which combines the features of several styles and eras.
Next to the station there is a water tower, which was also built in this era and is also a monument. The buildings together form a single architectural ensemble.
The station building is rectangular in plan with a mansard roof. The composition develops with a three-step increase in volume. Above the main entrance there is a curved, non-welded volume.
