Description
In the center of the city of Slonim, on Lenin Square, there is a monument to Chancellor Lev Sapieha (1557-1633), who was the mayor of the city of Slonim since 1586. At that time, the city was developing rapidly. The monument was inaugurated on September 1, 2019, on the republican holiday of the Day of Belarusian Writing.
The height of the monument is more than 4 meters. The bronze sculpture is mounted on a granite pedestal. In one hand, L. Sapieha holds the privilege of King Sigismund III to publish the code of laws of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and in the other he holds a mace as a symbol of power.
The authors of the monument are S. Logvin, V. Pipin and I. Misko, a native of the Slonim region.

In the city of Slonim, in the historical center on Lenin Square, there is a monument to Chancellor Lev Sapieha. This historical figure is a significant public figure and politician throughout Belarus.
L. Sapieha has done a lot for the city of Slonim and the entire region. Lev Sapieha (1557-1633) was the mayor of the city of Slonim since 1586. At that time, the city was rapidly developing and being built. At the request of L. Sapieha, Slonim received the Magdeburg law in 1591. A town hall, bridges and squares, shopping malls were built, and artisan workshops were created. The city received a coat of arms depicting a lion holding in its paws a golden arrow from the rainbow coat of arms of the Sapieha magnates.
A historical center with cobbled streets developed during this period.
The idea to erect a monument to L. Sapieha in Slonim has been around for a long time, and fundraising began in 2008.
Every year in September, Belarus hosts the republican holiday Belarusian Writing Day, and in 2019 it was held in the city of Slonim. On this occasion, in August 2019, a bronze sculpture of Lev Sapieha was installed in the city center. The official opening of the monument took place on September 1, 2019 in the presence of distinguished guests and the public.
The authors of the monument are famous Belarusian craftsmen: Sergey Logvin, Vladimir Pipin and Ivan Misko, a native of the Slonim region.
