Slonim. Mosque.
There is a mosque in the city of Slonim, not far from the historical center. The old wooden mosque was destroyed by the Nazis during the war, and this stone temple was built in the 1990s.
The mosque is located on the bank of the Oginsky Canal at the 10, Oginsky Street. The ancient mosque was located in the city on Tatarskaya Street, now it is modern Kirov Street. During the independence of the Republic of Belarus, the issue of acquiring a new temple for Muslims arose. In 1994, a new mosque was opened in a former 19th-century stone outbuilding. In Soviet times, this room was used as a sports and recreation center. The local imam, Suleiman Bayrashevsky, appealed to the country's leadership and the building was transferred to the mosque.
The building is an architectural monument, is one-story stone, covered with a three-pitched roof. The monument was built of brick and rubble stone.
Tatars appeared in the city of Slonim during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 16th century. According to the census of the Russian Empire in 1897, 178 Tatars lived in the Slonim entrance. The wooden mosque in Slonim was built in 1804 with a single dome and a minaret. The temple was destroyed by fire in 1881 and rebuilt a year later. The money for the renovation of the mosque was given by Count Frantishek Puslovsky, who had a residence near Slonim in Albertin.
