Slavnoye. St. Elijah's Church.

In the town of Slavnoye, in the Mstislavsky district there is a wooden church of the 19th century. The church is Orthodox and named after St. Elijah. To get to Slavnoye, it is best to go to the Mstislavl – Gorki highway and turn to the place Kurmanovo. And already through Kurmanovo, the village itself is not far away. It was once a fairly large place, but now it is almost extinct. And the real decoration of the surroundings is the wooden Elijah Church.

For the first time, the church in Glorious documents is remembered in the 17th century. And there is an interesting legend that the first founder of the temple was Prince Labush. In the interior of the church there is a stone slab under which the prince is believed to be buried. At the very beginning of the 19th century, a new church was built, which, according to historical data, was transported from another village. The initiators of the transportation of the church were local Ivan nobles.

In the second half of the 19th century, a parish school operated at the church. Maxim Goretsky, a classic of Belarusian literature (1893 – 1938), who was born not far from here in the town of Malaya Bogatkovka, where the writer's house museum is now located, was baptized in this church. In the play "Anton" M. Goretsky describes the divine service in the Ilyinsky Church.

In Soviet times, the church was adapted as a granary. And during the war, the temple was opened and it worked later in the post-war period.

The building was renovated about 20 years ago. The church is functioning.
