Chapel and monument to Metropolitan Macarius of Kiev and All Russia in Skrygalov.
More than once, the surroundings of Mozyr and Skrygalov were ravaged by the Crimean Tatars. In one of the raids, in 1497, near Skrygalov, on the banks of the Pripyat, Metropolitan Macarius of Kiev and All Russia, who was traveling from Vilna to Kiev, was killed. For the first time, this man enters the arena of history already in the rank of Archimandrite of the Vilna Holy Trinity Monastery, the main monastery in the state.
Sailing along Pripyat with his companions, the saint stopped in the village of Skrygalov to celebrate the Divine Liturgy. Macarius knew that a detachment of Tatar cavalry had been sent from the besieged Mozyr, but he rejected the offer of his salvation, continuing to celebrate the Liturgy. Bursting into the temple, the Tatars seized the saint and took him to the riverbank, offering a deal. Macarius rejected all the proposals of the Tatars and accepted martyrdom at the hands of the infidels, without betraying his pastoral duty. Macarius' body was brought to Kiev and laid in the Cathedral Church of St. Sophia. After numerous healings and miracles performed through the intercession of the holy martyr, Metropolitan Macarius was canonized.
The first mention of the Orthodox Church in Skrygalov dates back to 1497, when Metropolitan Macarius was assassinated. The temple was rebuilt several times. The church was open until 1933, and services were resumed there in 1941 and 1942. In 1943, the building partially burned down, and after the war, the bells and crosses were removed from the church and the church was converted into a club, which operated until 1988. It was only in 1996 that the church was returned to the Orthodox Church and restored.
Now on the territory of the Saint's church Metropolitan Macarius of Kiev has a red brick chapel built in a retrospective Russian (Moscow - Yaroslavl style).
The chapel was built in 1906. It stands out with an abundance of decorative decorations.: It is bright red in color with many different ornate and unusual decorative elements. The canonical appearance of the chapel with a tower ending in an onion dome makes it look like a terem.
In the Podselitsa tract on the banks of the ancient riverbed of the Pripyat River stands an obelisk - a memorial stele, on the site of the martyrdom of St. Macarius Metropolitan of Kiev, built in 1897 to mark the 400th anniversary of his death. A commemorative plaque with the dates 1497-1897 and an icon are installed on the stele. Pilgrims often visit Skrygalov and religious processions are held in honor of St. Macarius.
The highlight of the village of Skrygalov is an ancient park, shrouded in legends, with century-old oak trees, immense lime trees, aspens and a unique pond. The park has existed here since the second half of the 19th century and is decorated in a landscape style. The park was founded by the last of the lords of these places, Pan Novikov. He walked along these paths with his daughter. About 30 species of tree seedlings were brought from Europe for the new park, many of which have been preserved to this day. These are white poplars with a height of about 32 meters, white acacia trees, lilac bushes, prickly blue spruces, European larches, brittle willows and other types of trees.
An unusual pond has been preserved in the park, the bottom of which is lined with oak blocks, so that the water in it always remains clean and transparent. The park area is approximately five hectares. The residents of Skrygalov inherited all this - the park, the pond, and the history.
