Selets. Assumption Church.
In the village of Selets, Bereza district, there is a stone Orthodox Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The first mention of the village in historical sources dates back to 1397.
A Catholic church was built in the 15th century. During the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 16th and 18th centuries, it was part of the Brest district of the Brest Voivodeship. After the third partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795, the town became part of the Russian Empire.
After the anti–Russian uprising led by K. Kalinovsky in 1863-1864, the church was closed, and the building was handed over to Orthodox believers. After some time, the wooden building was dismantled and a new stone Orthodox church was erected in its place.
The new Orthodox church was built in 1870 in a retrospective Russian style. The building has an elongated elongated composition and consists of four main parts: a vestibule, a refectory, a prayer hall and an apse. A three-tiered bell tower is built over the vestibule.
The church has ancient icons from the 18th and 19th centuries: "Jesus Crist", "The Intercession", "Saints Peter and Paul", "Nicholas the Wonderworker", "Assumption", "Our Lady of Tenderness", "Introduction to the Temple of the Virgin" and others.
