A silent witness to the former luxury: brewery ruins of the estate of the Voynilovich in Savichi
Among the picturesque hills of the Kopyl region, in the quiet village of Savichi, there is a hidden place where time not only stopped, but exposed to us the fragility of human creations. Here, among the remains of a once grandiose manor and park ensemble, rise the red-brick ruins of brewery (distillery), the last material witness to the economic might of the famous Voynilovich family.
This land has belonged to the family since the 16th century, but the real heyday of the estate is associated with the name of Edward Voynilovich, an outstanding public figure, philanthropist and founder of the Minsk Red Church. He considered Savichi his real home, where he always aspired to return from the bustling capitals. Thanks to his memoirs, we know that at the beginning of the 19th century, a stone palace with towers was built here, and a magnificent park with exotic plants, gazebos and labyrinths was laid out, which was considered one of the best in the Minsk region. There is no trace of that idyllic picture today: the main manor house, which survived the First World War, was irretrievably lost.
The brewery building, built at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries from red brick, is a typical example of industrial architecture of its time. It served not just as a place of production, but as a symbol of the owners' entrepreneurial spirit and their ability to farm efficiently. The massive walls, built conscientiously, survived their creators and the social cataclysms of the 20th century, but did not survive the Soviet desolation. Abandoned during the Soviet years, the building began to collapse inexorably, turning into picturesque but sad ruins.
Today, making your way through the thickets, you can see the skeletons of buildings and the famous Voynilovich ancestral mound. On this man-made hill, under two crosses - Orthodox and Catholic - rest the ashes of Edward's parents, his children Simeon and Elena, and since 2006, himself. He returned to his homeland 80 years after his death, having fulfilled his last wish.
The ruins of brewery in Savichi are more than just old walls. It is the silent guardian of the memory of a man who devoted his life to serving his native land. Looking at these red bricks, you can't help but remember that it was the pain of losing the children buried here that prompted Voynilovich to build a majestic church in their honor in Minsk. Now this place attracts tourists, becoming an important point on sightseeing routes following in the footsteps of Edward Voynilovich. The ruins do not allow us to forget the truth that even the strongest building is only a mortal shell before the power of human memory and love for their land.
