Saltanovka. Chapel
On the Mogilev-Bobruisk highway near the village of Saltanovka, after passing the pond, you will see a small brick chapel on the right side of the road. The building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century according to the project of the architect Konstantin Mikhailov and the Mogilev sculptor Pyotr Yatsina. The monument was erected in honor of the Battle of Saltanavka in the summer of 1812. The battle took place on July 23, 1812 between the troops of the 2nd Army under the command of General Peter Bagration and the French divisions of Louis Nicolas Davout. Directly on the battlefield were Russian units under the leadership of General Mykolai Rayevsky, while Bagration with the main forces of his army crossed the Dnieper in Bykhov, and then went to connect with the 1st Army in Smolensk. At first, Bagration wanted to go to Smolensk via Mogilev, but Davu was ahead of him. And Bagration organized a maneuver that diverted Dav's main forces from the 2nd Army and ordered General Raevsky to conduct a battle near Mogilev to buy time for his army to cross. According to the outcome of the battle, each side believed that he had won. After 100 years, it was decided to immortalize the feat of Russian soldiers and build a chapel. In plan, the chapel is a square building with a central composition. Signboards with a list of military units that took part in the Battle of Saltanovka are embedded in the walls of the chapel.
