Ruzhany. St. Casimir's Church.

In the town of Ruzhany in the Pruzhany district, you can see a lot of historical monuments and museums. The town is small and it may take you a whole day to visit everything. You will definitely be shown the palace-residence of the Sapieha magnates and the former shopping square, where several unique religious buildings have been preserved: a church, a church and a synagogue.

And you may not have time at all for another monument of the 18th century, which is located at the very tip of the village in the local cemetery-this is the church of St. Casimir. It is clearly visible from the Sapieha Palace when you view the panorama of the city from a hill.

The church was built in 1792 according to the design of the famous architect from Saxony Jan Samuel Becker, who was considered the court architect in Sapieha. The church was built at the expense of the owner of the estate in Ruzhany, Alexander Mikhail Sapieha (1730-1793), a political and military personality of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Hetman of Poland and Lithuania, Voivode of Polotsk, Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The Catholic shrine was named after Saint Casimir, whose relics were kept for some time in the possession of Sapieha.

The monument was erected in the classical style. The building is made of stone and has a rectangle in plan. Covered with a gable roof. The main facade is decorated with four Doric Order columns. The interior has a stone altar, which is also made in the Doric order.

In recent years, the church of Casimir has been restored. Saint Casimir is considered the patron saint of the Townspeople and his image is on the coat of arms of the city.
