Rossony. Resurrection Church.

The small town of Rossony has a thousand-year history. It was originally part of the Principality of Polotsk. And in ancient times, a wooden Orthodox church was built in the very south of the town, the roof of which was covered with shingles. There was a bell tower attached to the church. The church with a bell tower was built at the expense of the state treasury.

The stone church was built in 1879. The building is built of brick and rubble stone. Rubble stone was very widely used in construction in the Vitebsk region, as stones were attracted here by a glacier that melted 10 thousand years ago. Rubble stone looks very harmonious together with red brick. The facades of the church are decorated with decorative elements in the pseudo-Russian style. This style was popular in the Russian Empire in the 19th and early 20th century, when religious and civil buildings were built with elements of ancient Russian temples.

In Soviet times, the church was closed. It was severely damaged during the Great Patriotic War. In the early 1990s, restoration was carried out.

Russian Russian Church is a monument of pseudo-Russian architecture, or, in some sources, it is written – retrospectively – Russian style. The prayer hall is a cuboid volume, which is covered by a four-pitched roof with 5 domes.
