The church is made of rubble stone and brick built in 1817, a historical and architectural monument located in the small agro-town of Raitsa.
The church was built of rubble stone and brick in 1817 by order of the landowner Rayetsky and has since served as a place of worship for local residents. The temple was given the appearance of a medieval castle. He has experienced many historical events, including wars and political changes that have affected his condition and the fate of the parish. They tried to blow it up in the middle of the 20th century, but the walls resisted – only the old statue of the Mother of God, attached to the facade, fell.
The church was Catholic, and after the uprising of 1863 it became the Transfiguration Church, subsequently changed its name and lost elements of its architectural design in the style of romanticism.
The building has an appearance inspired by the romantic architecture of a medieval fortified castle. The architecture of the building is made in the Neo-Gothic style. Special attention is drawn to the harsh, meter-thick rubble stone walls, lancet windows in a brick frame, the elegantly painted plaster pattern on the red brick plane of the main facade, a tower with a high portal, a rose window and a battlemented parapet at the top.
The Church of St. Barbara not only serves religious purposes, but is also the center of cultural life in the District. Various events are held here, including festivals, concerts and exhibitions.
The temple was restored in 2003. From the original construction of the temple, only the fortified main entrance remained, which never fell under the blows of military equipment and time itself.
The church attracts tourists interested in history and architecture. Local excursions often include a visit to this monument.
The Church of St. Barbara in Raitsa is not only a religious building, but also an important element of the cultural identity of the local community. An interesting sight! The church is a unique example of architecture, gives the impression of a castle and is very noticeably and picturesquely located on a hillock.
