Radchitsk. Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God.

On the way between Stolin and Pinsk there is a village of Radchitsk. A stone church of the Nativity of the Mother of God has been built in the village on the central street.

Radchitsk has been known since the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and in the early 18th century belonged to the Mlocki gentlemen, who built a wooden church. The temple was destroyed by fire in 1760. The parishioners raised funds and soon the church was rebuilt.

At the end of the 18th century, the Skirmunts became the new owners of the town. In 1841, Alexander Skirmunt financed a new stone church, which was consecrated in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin. Skirmunt was buried near the church. His grave has been preserved to our time.

A. Skirmunt (1793 – 1845) was a public and political figure. He married Hortense from the Orda family, who was the sister of the composer and artist Napoleon Orda. The couple had a daughter, Gelena Skirmunt (1827-1874), who became a famous sculptor and artist.

And the old wooden church was dismantled.

In 1912, the famous Belarusian ethnographer Isaac Serbov visited the place, who left black-and-white photographs of the church and the grave of A. Skirmunt.

At the end of the 19th century, there was a church literacy school at the temple. The church is an architectural monument of late classicism and belongs to the type of cross-domed temples. The prayer hall is decorated as an octagonal volume, which is covered by a faceted wooden hemispherical dome. The interior features a two-tiered iconostasis and an icon of the God Mother of Odigitria from the 18th century.

The church has been renovated in recent years.
