Porechye. Skirmunt Park.

There are a lot of interesting historical places in the village of Porechye in Pinsk district, and to see them all you need to come here for the whole day. Once it was a small village little known to anyone, but at the end of the 18th century the place was acquired by the Skirmunts from Oginsky.

The Skirmunts turned Porechye into one of the largest industrial centers in Belarus. A modern sugar factory, a brewery, a cheese factory, a cloth factory and much more were built here. A beautiful park was also created here, which still impresses with its beauty and uniqueness.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Roman Skirmunt laid out a park on the banks of the Yaselda River, which became the pride of not only the Skirmunt family, but also the entire Pinsk Region. R. Skirmunt (1868 - 1939) was a famous Belarusian, Polish and Russian political and public figure who left behind a rich legacy, including this unusual park in Porechye.

The park is based on majestic oak trees, which are now 120-180 years old. The park has the status of a natural monument of national importance and has an area of more than 60 hectares. Roman Skirmunt himself was involved in the construction of the park and took care of the formation of a collection of plants, including exotics.

The main decoration of the park was the tulip tree alley, of which only one specimen has survived to our time. And there is another such tree in Belarus in Minsk in the Central Botanical Garden. There are 30 species of rare plants preserved in the park, which were brought here from other countries. These are swamp cypress, red-leaved oak and other plants.

On the outskirts of the park there are the outbuildings of a sugar factory, a German pillbox from the time of the First World War and the grave of Roman Skirmunt himself. The park in Porechye has the status of a natural monument of national importance.
