Porechye. St. George the Victorious Church.

In the village of Porechye, Slonim district, on the banks of the Shchara River, a stone Orthodox church was built, which was consecrated in honor of St. George. The town of Porechye was first mentioned in historical sources in the 17th century during the era of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

In 1647, the place was the property of Hieronymus – Andrei Talka in Slonim district. The first wooden church was built in the 17th century by the foundation of Volovich.

During the time of the Russian Empire, in 1842, the old Uniate church burned down during a fire. Divine services began to take place in the chapel at the cemetery.

In 1867, a stone Orthodox church was built on the site of an old church belonging to Uniate believers. In Soviet times, the church was closed and the room was adapted as a warehouse. In the 1970s, the church was severely damaged during a fire. At the end of the USSR, the building was returned to the faithful and repairs were started.

The church was built in the retrospective Russian style of rubble stone and brick. It consists of four canonical main architectural parts: the vestibule, the refectory, the prayer hall and the apse. An eight-by-four bell tower has been erected above the vestibule.
