Polonka. Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
In the village of Polonka, Baranovichi district, there is a wooden church of St. Nicholas.
The place first time is found in historical sources in the 15th century during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was the property of Jan Litavor Khreptovich, then of the Sangushki-Nesukhoezhsky princely family and other owners. Placed at the old Warsaw tract between the village of New Mouse and the city of Slonim.
During the time of the Grand Duchy, a Catholic Dominican monastery was built in the village. Now there is a wooden church of St. Nicholas on this site there was a temple of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa. The Dominican monastery and church were closed during the Russian Empire and the wooden Orthodox church of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa was built on this site in 1880. The temple was built in a retrospective Russian style with a three-tiered bell tower.
The church was dismantled during the time of the Polish state in 1924, as the wooden building had decayed and a repair or a new temple was needed. The new church was consecrated in 1937 and dedicated in honor of St. Nicholas. After the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed in the 1960s and the building was handed over to the faithful only at the end of the existence of the Soviet Union. A repair was carried out. The church is active.
