Polotsk. Monument to Euphrosyne of Polotsk.

The monument symbolizes the beginning of the life path of Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk, leading from the Great Posad to the Spassky Monastery.

Euphrosyne, known to the world as Predslava, was the daughter of Prince Svyatoslav Vseslavich of Vitebsk and the granddaughter of Vseslav Bryachislavich, nicknamed "The Magician". When she reached adulthood at the age of 12, the girl decided to enter a monastery, leaving her native home. As a nun and educator, she was actively engaged in social activities. Euphrosyne of Polotsk became the first canonized woman in Belarus.

Euphrosyne founded the Spaso-Euphrosyne Monastery in Polotsk, and on her initiative the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral and the Church of the Holy Virgin were built. The idea of creating the famous cross, which was later created by master Lazar Bogsha, also belonged to Euphrosyne.

The bronze statue depicts Euphrosyne of Polotsk in full height. She is dressed in a strict monastic habit, emphasizing her piety and chastity. In her hands she holds the famous lost cross created by Lazar Bogsha, which has become a symbol of her spiritual achievement and legacy.

Euphrosyne of Polotsk Street in the city where this saint spent her life stretches from St. Sophia Cathedral to the Spaso-Euphrosyne Monastery. According to the author's idea, the sculpture of St. Euphrosyne is located exactly on the path that she herself followed, from her birth to her true spiritual destiny.
