Polotsk. Museum of Military Glory.
The Museum of Military Glory was opened in 1971 as one of the departments of the Polotsk Museum of Local Lore. A significant contribution to the creation of the museum, the design of the exposition and the acquisition of specialized collections was made by the museum's scientific staff – Olga Ivanovna Tretyakova and Vasily Andreevich Kupriyanov.
For a long time, the place where the museum is located today was called "Battery" by the Polochans. This name did not appear by chance – during the War of 1812, the Soviet-Polish War and the Great Patriotic War, artillery positions were located here. On July 3, 1966, the memorial complex "Kurgan of Immortality" was inaugurated at this place as a symbol of the memory of the defenders and liberators of the ancient Belarusian city, the partisans and civilians who died on the territory of Polotchina during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. On July 2, 1967, a park named after the 50th anniversary of Soviet power was opened here. A monument "The Oath of the Partisans" by the Bulgarian sculptor V. Valev was erected on one of the paths of the park.
In 1981, the museum was closed for re-exhibition, and the building was reconstructed at the same time. On May 7, 1985, on the eve of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, the museum was reopened to residents and guests of the city.
Since 2001, the Museum of Military Glory has been a branch of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum Reserve.
The Museum of Military Glory has two branches – the Museum Apartment of the Hero of the Soviet Union Zinaida Mikhailovna Tusnolobova-Marchenko and the Historical and Cultural complex "Field of Military Glory".
Opened in 1987, the Museum apartment of Hero of the Soviet Union Z.M. Tusnolobova-Marchenko tells about the life and combat path of our countryman, a medical instructor of a rifle company who saved the lives of dozens of soldiers and officers of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War.
The Field of Military Glory Historical and Cultural Complex, established in 2006 It is dedicated to the history of the Polotsk fortified area, an integral part of the system of fortifications known as the "Stalin Line".
Every year, the Museum of Military Glory prepares temporary exhibitions for visitors, which complement and expand the ideas about the contribution of the Polish people to the Great Victory, reveal new pages of the last war.
The Museum of Military Glory has been closed for repairs since June 27, 2022. The museum staff continues to conduct excursions to the Field of Military Glory, as well as lectures and museum-pedagogical classes.
