Podlesye. The Church of the Holy Spirit.

In the village of Podlesye, Lyakhovichi district, there is a wooden church of the Holy Spirit in which the miraculous icon of the Mother of God is kept.

According to legend, before the construction of the church, the miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared. There is another local legend that sometime in the 16th century, a blind girl was walking from the Undergrowth to a neighboring village, and when she came to a cross with a boulder on the outskirts of the town, she regained her sight. And on this boulder, the girl saw the Virgin. And then the residents built a tent on this place, and then a chapel.

The fame of the apparition of the Virgin in the Undergrowth spread far throughout the region. And in the 17th century, Mstislavl voivode Prince Sapieha, when he became very ill, came on foot to the local icon of the Virgin Mary and promised that if he recovered, he would build a church here. After his recovery, Sapieha built the first wooden church in the village in 1637. In the middle of the 18th century, a new shrine was erected on the site of the old temple, which has survived to our time.

The construction of this new temple was also preceded by legendary events.

The head of the Staro-Lyakhovich estate once had horses running madly, and at that time, frightened, the manager began to pray to the Virgin Mary and promised to build a new temple for salvation. And the horses stopped exactly where the temple now exists.

In 1879, a three-tiered iconostasis with 12 icons was made in the church. According to some sources, the icons were painted by local craftsmen. The miraculous icon of the Podlesye Mother of God has been preserved to our time. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, a stone bell tower was built in front of the church.

The church was built in the traditions of wooden folk architecture. In recent years, the church has been renovated. The territory near the temple is landscaped.
