Podlabenye. Church of the Mother of God of Ruzhentsova.
There is a stone Catholic church in the village of Podlabenye, Grodno region. The church was consecrated in honor of the Mother of God Ruzhentsova. During the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, King Augustus II of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth founded a Uniate parish in the town in 1715.
After the partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth at the end of the 18th century as part of the Russian Empire. In the 19th century, Uniatism was banned in Russia and the church was handed over to Orthodox believers. At the end of the 19th century, the wooden church was dismantled.
In 1887, a stone Orthodox church in the neoclassical style was built in the village. After the revolutionary events and the outbreak of the First World War in 1917, the church was handed over to the Catholic faithful. After the Peace of Riga in 1921, these places became part of the Polish state until the coming of Soviet power in 1939.
In 1929, the church was consecrated in honor of the Ruzhentsova Mother of God. A little later, a chapel was completed to the temple in 1935.
After the Great Patriotic War in Soviet times, in 1956, a dome was built over the temple and a sacristy was added. In Soviet times, the shrine was not closed and worked constantly. In 1983, an Art Nouveau chapel was built near the church.
There is a stone fence around the temple, and when you drive up to the monument, you get the impression that there is some kind of fortress or castle in front of you.
