Description

The Museum of the Belarusian Polesie in Pinsk is one of the oldest museums in the Republic of Belarus. In October 2024, it celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding. The museum has become an important center for studying and preserving the heritage of the Belarusian people. It is located in the building of the former collegium of the Jesuits (1631-1675), which has the status of historical and cultural value of the Republic of Belarus.

One of the oldest museums in the Republic of Belarus. Here you can see household items, clothes, tools and other artifacts reflecting the culture of Polesie.

The museum offers a variety of exhibitions that cover various aspects of the life and lifestyle of local residents, including traditional crafts, folk customs and holidays. Here you can see household items, clothes, tools and other artifacts reflecting the culture of Polesie. The museum fund is almost 100,000 units and it continues to be replenished annually.

The museum has the following permanent exhibitions:

 - The history of Pinshchyna from ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century

Here are objects found during archaeological excavations in Pinsk and Pinsk: a unique collection of ceramic tiles from the 12th century, a lead seal of Izyaslav Yaroslavich from the 11th century, a fragment of an amphora with an inscription, tools, shoes, everyday objects of the inhabitants of medieval Pinsk, etc. Separate sections are devoted to the economic development of the region in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

- Crafts and crafts of Polesie

Samples of the traditional culture of Polesie are presented here: household items, everyday use, types of folk costume.

- Urban life of the first half of the 20th century

This exhibition presents authentic pieces of furniture, musical instruments, watches, dishes, clothes, interior items of a citizen's room and other things. 

- Pinshchyna during the Great Patriotic War"

In the exhibition hall, you can learn about the first partisan detachment, the activities of the Pinsk partisan unit, the Pinsk ghetto, the battles for the liberation of Pinshchyna in July 1944.

 - Belarusian painting of the 50-80 g of the 20th century

The hall presents works by such famous Belarusian artists as V.K. Tsvirko, N.I. Schastnaya, L.D. Shchemelev, P.V. Maslennikov, M.G. Dovgyalo, K.I.Khoroshevich, A.D. Shibnev and others. 

- Russian painting of the second half of the 19th – early 20th century

The exhibition presents authentic paintings by Russian masters: I.K. Aivazovsky, I.I. Shishkin, V.G. Perov, V.M. Vasnetsov, V.D. Polenov, etc. – and the works of Belarusian artists of the early twentieth century: V.K. Byalynitsky-Biruli, Yu.M. Pan.

- Butrimovich's Palace

In this exhibition, you can learn about the history of the construction of the palace, its owners, get acquainted with the famous noble families of Butrimovich, Horde, Skirmunt, as well as the works of Napoleon Orda and Helena Skirmunt.

The museum also presents expositions dedicated to the unique flora and fauna of Polesie, including rare species of plants and animals characteristic of this region.  Also, during the year, the museum opens about 14 temporary exhibitions, cultural and educational events are held: quest games, interactive classes, the annual "Night at the Museum" and others.

The museum actively conducts educational events aimed at popularizing Belarusian culture and history among young people and tourists.

The Museum of the Belarusian Polesie in Pinsk is not only a place to study history, but also a cultural center that promotes the preservation and popularization of the Belarusian heritage.
