The Church of the Resurrection of the Living.
The Church of the Resurrection of the Living has a difficult history. At the end of the 17th century, a Dominican church in the classical style was first erected on the territory of the current church, which was transferred two centuries later (in 1857) to the Orthodox denomination, transforming into St. Theodore Cathedral. In the middle of the 20th century, the cathedral was completely demolished by the decision of the Soviet government. A typical cinema called Druzhba was built on its territory.
Only the cathedral was razed to the ground, so other church buildings remained around the cinema building: the residential building of the Archbishop of Pinsk and Polessky, the consistory and monastic buildings. Over time, the temple was rebuilt. After the cinema was given back to the Orthodox Church, the building for film screenings was gradually transformed into the beautiful and majestic cathedral of the Pinsk-Luninets diocese. Large sparkling domes were added instead of a projectionist's cabin, the ticket office was converted into a church shop, and in 2010 the dome was artistically painted from the inside by craftsmen. The two-towered church in the late Baroque style received a dome topped with an onion, which was supposed to bring its appearance closer to the traditions of Orthodox architecture.
In Soviet times, the premises of the monastery were used as a hospital. It resumed its activities only in 1993, when all the buildings, including the Church of the Resurrection of the Reputed Varvarinsky Monastery, were returned to the faithful.
A very beautiful cathedral of the Pinsk diocese with rich interior decoration!
After exploring the interior of the cathedral, you can walk to the St. Barbara Convent, admire the altar of the house church of St. Stephen the First Martyr, go to the bookstore at the Church of the Resurrection.
