Pinkovichi. Holy Protection Church.

If you drive through the entire city of Pinsk from the historical center along the Pina River to the east, you will arrive in a couple of kilometers to the ancient town of Pinkovichi.

The place has been known since the 15th century. During the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Kurtsevichi, Sapieha, Brzhostovsky and Skirmunty were the owners of the local land. In the 19th century, there were two churches here: Pokrovskaya and Ilyinskaya. In 1904-1906, Yakub Kolas, a national poet of Belarus, worked at a local school.

Today, the main historical monuments are the Yakub Kolas Literary Museum and the wooden Holy Protection Church.

The church was built on the outskirts of the town near the Pina River. The temple was erected in 1830, but according to some sources, the building was built much earlier and originally belonged to the Uniates. In the 19th century, parishioners donated a large icon of the "Exaltation of the Holy Cross" for their church, which is still in the church.

The temple was built in the traditions of folk architecture and consists of three main parts: a vestibule, a prayer hall and an apse. The vestibule has a built-in bell tower, which is completed with a four-pitched roof with a small faceted drum and an onion. The prayer hall has an interesting octagonal shape. The main volume is covered with a hipped faceted roof, which is completed with an octagonal drum with an onion dome. A five-sided apse with a side sacristy is attached to the main part.

The interior features ancient icons from the 18th and 19th centuries: "The Last Supper", "Pokrova", "Exaltation of the Holy Cross" and others.

Previously, the church had a royal gate from the old 17th century temple. In 1926, the famous Belarusian writer, historian and artist Yazep Drozdovich visited Pinkovichi, who made an image of the church. The American ethnographer and researcher Louise Arner Boyd also visited Pinkovichi in 1934.
